What Does Great Beef Look Like from Raw to Cooked? A Photography Journey With Hall of Fame Farms

The Client & The Ask

Client: Hall of Fame Farms
Location: Muscoda, WI
Services: Food Photography, Product Photography

Hall of Fame Farms raises cattle in Wisconsin, with a growing focus on Wagyu, and the brand's story is built on quality and knowing where your food comes from. I appreciate their efforts for ethical and humane animal treatment.

The ask was a series of food photography images showing the beef in both states, raw and cooked, so customers could see the quality for themselves. We needed imagery that told the farm story through the product itself: the marbling, the sear, and the care behind every cut.

To make the cooked shots as authentic as the raw ones, Chef Dan of Alimentari and Chef Anthony Abounader joined the shoot to cook the meat, so every cooked image reflects how a skilled chef would actually prepare it.

The Challenge

Raw and cooked beef are two very different photography subjects. Raw meat needs clean, controlled lighting that shows off marbling without turning it flat, shiny, or harsh. Cooked meat is a race against the clock: a sear looks its best for a short window, and the crust, juices, and color all change quickly once it comes off the heat.

The bigger challenge was making the two states feel connected. A viewer should be able to look at a raw cut, then a cooked one, and understand the full story of the product. That meant keeping lighting, styling, and composition consistent across the whole series while still letting each stage have its own character.

The Result

The final series gives Hall of Fame Farms imagery that shows quality at a glance: marbling you can see and a sear you can almost taste. My favorite part is that is also carries a Wisconsin farm story through from raw to cooked. It's a great example of how product photography and food photography can work together to help a brand explain itself without a single line of copy.

If you're a Wisconsin farm, butcher, or food brand with a product that deserves a closer look, I'd love to help you show what makes it special.
